5, Water Lane

5 Water Lane is the end cottage of a group formed when a house which had been built in 1850 was split into two cottages and extra cottages were added at each end. During work to construct an extension, a stone culvert was uncovered behind the house.

This extends along the whole terrace and carries water after heavy rain. The culvert is in good condition and clean.

Its date cannot be determined without some finds, but it is likely to have been built in connection with the original cottages on the site.

The owner of the house, Sam Fletcher, took these photographs of the culvert while it was open in June 2006.
