Town Hall

Somerton's market place in 1823. The picture is distorted by having the church tower visible from this spot, but the central group of buildings is correct.

At that date the Town Hall did not have a window in the gable, the small room at the west end was a lock-up. The scene reflects the importance of Somerton as a coaching centre.

The low building on the left of the picture was the shambles.
